The Franschhoek Wine Wander

A gentle, curated stroll

to Franschhoek’s 3 top

wine farms

This meander through vineyards, statue gardens and country lanes is a wonderful way to escape the crowds and experience the true magic of the Franschhoek Wine Valley.

We stop at three iconic farms;

  • Mont Rochelle

  • Mullineux & Leeu

  • La Cotte Heritage Farm

We start at the church in town, amble through vineyards, taste 9 wines along the way and end with a delicious harvest-style lunch at La Cotte Heritage Farm.

If you’re looking for something curated and unique, then look no further!

Beautiful Scenery

We start in the town centre, but quickly slip into the surrounding vineyards, orchards and country lanes. The panoramic views and curated gardens are a major highlight of the tour.

Food and Wine

As SA’s Food and Wine Capital, Franschhoek has some of the best produce in the country. The walk culminates with a scrumptious harvest-style lunch of assorted salads and mains at La Cotte Heritage Farm.

Fascinating Stories

Run-ins with lions, jousting stick deaths, the birth of a wine region, South Africa’s first non-white mayor and the early days of Bastille Day - the story of Franschhoek is as fascinating as the valley is beautiful.

  1. We meet at the Dutch Reformed Church in the centre of town at 830am. This is the oldest building in town and a fitting place to start our wander.

  2. We make our way down Main Street but almost immediately slip into a plum orchard and a local vineyard.

3. We cross some bridges and enter Mont Rochelle Wine Estate, where we have a stop at a dam and then sit down at Country Kitchen to taste three wines.

4. The next leg of our amble is down a pleasant country lane, before entering the Bokkie Statue Garden at the stunning Leeu Estate.

5. We visit Mullineux & Leeu to taste four of their wines. Andrea Mullineux has been named SA’s winemaker of the year on five different occassions, so her wines - and the tasting experience here - is one of the highlights of the day.

6. With the day in full swing, we hop in a tuk tuk that escorts us to our lunch stop, the incomparable La Cotte Heritage Farm.

7. We enjoy a harvest-style lunch at La Cotte, the farm on which the town of Franschhoek was built. The Old Mill has recently been refurbished and is now a charming coffee shop, and our last stop.

8. We stroll down the route of La Cotte River, and end back at the church, where we began our wine wander.

We believe…

That Cape Town is the most beautiful city in the world, brimming with stories as diverse as its nature. Yet it suffers from a range
of social ills.

Our mission is to create world-class walking tours that celebrate our diversity, history and natural beauty, and, in turn, raise funds for local initiatives that introduce youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds to the joy, sense of adventure and calming power of the outdoors.

We want to help them nurture a relationship with the outside world, which can improve their sense of wellbeing and ultimately, hopefully, lead to better conservation of our wild spaces too.
